Mimi is one of our awesome Hip Shake Fitness Dancers. If you can believe it, she is 61 years old, but she can definitely out dance anyone of us.
Her profession
Mimi is a Registered Nurse working as a Director of Patients Care Services for a home health agency. She has a very busy 9-5 schedule, 5 days a week and she’s on call on weekends. Not to mention her commute to work is about an hour each way. That’s a lot of time sitting in traffic every week!Love of dance
She grew up in the Philippines and ever since she was a kid, she’s always loved dancing. In school, Mimi participated in a lot of dance related programs which made her desire to keep dancing even greater. She feels the music in her every movement and it lifts up her spirits. Plus she uses dance as a stress reliever and we’re all on board with that.Dance classes for your workout
Starting from circuit exercises to walking everyday, Mimi grew bored of the same old workout routine. She discovered dance fitness classes and was completely hooked! “Now it motivates me to exercise. Dancing makes me feel really good and alive.” With a very busy schedule, Mimi tries to go to her dance/ workout classes twice a week. The problem is that the earliest class is at 7 am and she barely has time to cool down before needing to rush to work. If she tries to go after work, she will likely miss half the class because of traffic. Mimi explains “when I get home after work, it’s a struggle to try to go to the gym or to a dance class since I have to tend to household chores.” Another problem is the cost of classes that can pile up. Average dance classes range from $10 – $25 per class and sometimes you have to get packages for future classes that you may or may not even use.Now it motivates me to exercise. Dancing makes me feel really good and alive.
Thoughts about an online dance studio
A dance studio online will be so helpful because I can have access to it anytime. I can do my exercise early in the morning and still get to work on time. I will have complete control of when I workout and where I work out.Hipshaker
At first Mimi was hesitant about being a backup dancer for the workout routines because she’s never tried those classes before. She went in the studio with full confidence and said “I’ll follow whatever I can and try my best.” She expected to learn new moves and get a good exercise out of it and of course, she wanted to enjoy herself. She felt that the dance moves were invigorating and it made her feel really good afterwards. And a bonus for her, she said that Old School Hip Hop and Dancehall Jam helped her with her flexibility.
