When the Black Lives Matter movement gained momentum a few months ago, I always thought that as a minority and a woman I get it.
What I realized in the last few months is that I don’t. Things are NOT ok. There is no getting back to business as usual. I personally need to take action to be actively anti-racist. I have been having conversations with our team, especially our Black team members to understand how to support them and amplify their voices. I am grateful to have the honor to listen and learn with all of you.
Our Hip Shake Fitness community is a place where we can all start to make changes. It took us a while to finalize our commitments to Black Lives Matter because we wanted to make sure that we have a concrete action plan in place that will really change the ratio!
Starting today, we as a company are making 4 commitments to honor Black Lives Matter.
- We are making a commitment that moving forward 50% of the people represented in our videos will be BIPOC.
- We have opened up conversations with our team, especially our Black team members to understand how to support them and amplify their voices.
- We are seeking ways to use our platforms to feature, elevate and promote Black experts, talent and members.
- We have made a donation to @mindleaps a non-profit that runs dance & education program for underserved Black youth.
