When the Black Lives Matter movement gained momentum a few months ago, I always thought that as a minority and a woman I get it. What I realized in the last few months is that I don’t. Things are NOT ok. There is no getting back to business as usual. I personally need to take action to be actively anti-racist. I have been having conversations with our team, especially our Black team members to understand how to support them and amplify their voices. I am grateful to have the honor to listen and learn with all of you. Our Hip Shake Fitness community is a place where we can all start to make changes. It took us a while to finalize our commitments to Black Lives Matter because we wanted to make sure that we have a concrete action plan in place that will really change the ratio! Starting today, we as a company are making 4 commitments to honor Black Lives Matter.
  1. We are making a commitment that moving forward 50% of the people represented in our videos will be BIPOC.
  2. We have opened up conversations with our team, especially our Black team members to understand how to support them and amplify their voices.
  3. We are seeking ways to use our platforms to feature, elevate and promote Black experts, talent and members.
  4. We have made a donation to @mindleaps a non-profit that runs dance & education program for underserved Black youth.
I’d personally love to hear any suggestions from you and open up the conversation with you. Please feel free to leave a comment below and let’s talk. To be silent is complicit. Black Lives Matter! 🖤
